so havent posted a thing since last week except friday night was my first night out in bj saw a few places had some street food. no pictures maybe on fb.
but its was a normal week but mostly looking forward to this weekend. which was the weekend my relatives moved to their new house.

the average weekend here in beijing is pretty much average.

well today i went to a bike store. one nearby where im staying now. it was a pretty nice store.
and i was thinking of gettinga folding one and brining it back to glasgow with me. as light as they are i didnt expect them to be so damn expensive. so i might have to rethink my options now.

this really cool looking one is made by birdy. at the shop it costs 12000 yuan. which is roughly. RMno-way-in-hell-your-parents-would let-you-get-one.

This one a little less and not so bad looking is a good possibility. around 1800yuan. its from dahon a little weird for an american brand but. i can live with it.

Some cooler bikes seen online. price tag for a designer bike shouldnt kill. hopefully
vasu if youre reading this why dont you do something soon about your product design course and build me a bike. thanks

after a long hiatus. i guess i should start things up again

i wont dawdle on important stuff just get straight to the boring stuff.

its been a month since ive been in beijing and almost a month since ive started my summer internship. highly emphasizing the month part cause as the title says it. today was payday, and boy was it scheweeeet. yea baby guess whos rolling in the yuan now. yup i think its about time i retire.

anyways at the office we got new desks over the weekend. and well. they werent what i expected at all not even close. i guess they are a little more sturdy and 'expensive' but i think the office lost abit of its airiness once these big boys came in. although yea you got more privacy to well twiddle your thumbs or decorate your little nook with inappropriate pictures which could be invisible to some i guess. but yea there are possibilities and things look organized for now.

have no idea what else to write about. right saw harry potter last weekend. and i think they should have more scenes with hermione in it. that probably why so many people didnt really like it. not enough hermione and a little too many scenes where they have awkward pauses and drag the scene a wee bit long.

oh fans were probably anrgry they didnt do the dumbledore funeral. or maybe that was just censored here in china. along with certain parts in the beginning and the major fight scene after dumbledore's death. total bollocks.

so last Monday i moved out of my student accommodation. packed everything in 4 hours and i was out. quick and painless. almost like a tooth extraction.

speaking of which i had an abscess during my trip in London. it was weird, the right side of my face bloated up making half of me look like a really fat me. i think its good for everyone to experience it at least once in your life. to see another side of you a fatter side. i guess it would serve as a reminder to exercise regularly.

now im waiting, packed and ready to go.

the urban farm project is over. a week of slaving and its done. now all thats left is the portfolio which they take quite seriously here. Since its what they base their marks on, it has become quite an intimidating task. too add fuel to the fire, im not the type to have a ton of sketches while working on my design, usualy just a few but mostly just imagining about it in my head. so i would assume im going to have a pretty light portfolio :/ pray theyre convinced by my work.

on other things there was the opening of the exhibition by the year 2 painting and printmaking students. dont have much pictures but this one was my favourite piece and would possibly appeal more to the architects.
and the flat hunt is still on! two flats are now under careful consideration. a super posh duplex penthouse or a more industrial converted warehouse. but right now the duplex is winning the battle the main reason being that i have yet to see the other place.

the search for next years home continues. and today i found out about HMOs.
weirdest license in the world. and i guess makes sense in a way. its a license for multiple occupants living in the same house. i guess it curbs overstuffing places with poor students. so, for one person its fine, two people is fine and i guess to them three is a crowd. well if youre planning to share with another 2 people youre in luck.

the secret to curbing this irritating little by-law, is to get a fake girlfriend.

they count couples as one so if one of your new housemates is a girl its time to do a little lying.
but if youre 4 and over, too bad.

other than that, got a few potential flats to view this week starting with tomorrow. hopefully all goes well :D

well ive pretty much made a big mistake in buying a plane ticket.
ALWAYS check how to get to the aiport before buying a ticket, i was in such a panic but seems like all should be okay now.
getting to prestwick international airport can be done by train. which is reasonably cheap. i take back what i said before, next time im gonna use the bus. cause with a bus you get right into victoria coach station and the tube is a short walk away. even though the bus journey is very long. still save money :(

yay no more exams. wtf
and just took a look at the school's calendar and seems like i actually finish on the 18th of may. which is when final portfolio's are due. and i already bought my ticket to beijing which is on the 16th of june. thats like a whole month. so im going to be 'overstaying' i should travel actually aka. spend more money. but being the good son that i am. im going to work. havent told my dad yet but im sure he would tell me to do the same. other than that i would need to find a flat to stay in for the next year. i actually found this really nice place but the deal was to move in in may. so we didnt take it. seems like we should have.

in all honesty the nicest flat ive seen so far in glasgow. of course there will be fancier ones but for the price what you get is pretty darn good.

was bored yesterday so i let amily cut my hair. wei chi was in the room as well you both of them pointing at my head saying this part got too much hair must cut, cut here, cut there, pause, crit again, cut sumore. pretty scary. but well head feeling much lighter than before and the cut wasnt too bad actually. turned out quite normal thank god.
it was siu ning's birthday so amily made tiramisu, kind of but not really cause, the 'cake' part of it was actually brownie. she couldnt find the lady fingers(not the veg but its a kind of biscuit) but still tasted pretty good.
no mahjong that night :(

I realised something i should have realised earlier. peiyee's 19" monitor is still in glasgow. stupid right now only realise. ive had my ps3 for about a month now and since then ive been stealing my neighbour's tv to play. well no more. got the monitor now and i check the back for a hdmi slot. tak ade.... crap. so i ask google for help. seems like i have to get a hdmi to dvi cable for video and for sound an rca adapter for my ipod speakers. hdmi cables are quite expensive so a cable which converts should be worth considerably more. lucky i was able to get both on ebay for 5 including shipping such good luck, so now i have to wait til next week to play in my room.

well finally got back to this blog. i guess it almost died after a week of not posting anything.
was busy with exams and then some.

london was pretty fun. albiet the last few days were super lazy. chilling and studying from time to time. mostly just lazing around. the chinese visa cost 54.50. and you know what, i almost laughed out loud when i was at the counter paying for it. for service they charge 34.50 sound familiar?

anyways yea and me and chok(cousin) went to watch the manu porto match at this malaysian chinese restaurant called ah king. i should have placed a bet for ronaldo to score first. anyways the food there was so damn good. dont really have any pictures cause i dont really carry a camera around. but it was a real malaysian restaurant. i have no clue of what any of the dishes are called but there was pork prawns crab chicken tofu veg noodles and soup. hen pao!

next day was hilarious. i left my wallet in my jeans and put it in the wash and wellun-suspectingly put it in the dryer as well T_T seriously wtf..... so when i realised and checked. its was pretty messed up.

the trip back to glasgow wasnt as bad. but next time im taking a plane. gets you there so much faster and the prices arent all that different. if youre lucky maybe cheaper! watched bruce lee in big boss. think it was his first movie. i guess it was kind of cool for that time. and a few eps of friday night lights. its kind of weird why i cant find anywhere online which streams the series. like tudou and youku has season 1 and 2 for it but season 3 no one was kind enough to upload. no matter i downloaded everything in london. internet is so fast there. but i guess it was cause of the provider too.

oh its been a hell of a week fantastic food almost everyday of the week! i shouldve put on abit of weight at least
last Tuesday after work, pan mee and chicken rice.
Wednesday was normal steak and baked potatoes with carrots and mushrooms
Thursday was lindsay's birthday had quite some fun. good chinese hotpot meatballs and prawns. some salmon shashimi, and the kicker. steam fucking crabs. oh yea. hadnt had that in awhile. oh and the typical chinese LAN after.
Friday was a normal day again sadly noodles and the like.
Saturday dinner was good. salmon shashimi again and braised pork.
think im like quite pampered right now. so i get on the night bus to london and arrive on sunday morning. the trip was horrible. i had a spazzer sit next to me and he kept spazzing like every 5 minutes... it was driving me crazy, it didnt help either that he smelt like a gym...kinda weird that he wore a suit but oh well.
first time taking the tube wasnt too bad quite enjoyable and smooth, so yea got to my cousin's house in shepards bush. not that hard to find actually. comparing to what i went through when i tried to find where i was gonna stay in glasgow. but yea the house is gorgeous, esp the kitchen and living room. quite jealous of the tv cause i don't have one right now for my PS3.

Sunday Dinner was good as well. had bbq Bratwurst, steamed sweetcorn, oven baked carrots with honey and sesame seeds and roast pork. topped off with some red wine. cant remember the name. :/
and come Monday, not much happening except for lunch and dinner! Lunch was pork with some crackling and baked potatoes. simple yet really good but dinner was the better part of the day if i must choose, took the train to Queensway, to Mandarin Kitchen. my cousin Hui said it was the best Chinese restaurant in London, and by the looks of the crowd i should think so too. There was a cold plate for starters with jellyfish, duck, pork, and clamfish. clamfish was quite new to me but it was quite enjoyable tasted like those dried fish/squid strips you get back home. Next were 2 main courses the first was peking duck. its been a long time since i had peking duck, and I'm hoping to have more of it when i get to Beijing :) and the final was lobster noodle the meat was goood. all this was with tiger beer. which tasted really good compared to shitty tennents.
So i guess those were the highlights of the week. which was all about the food. don't want to bore you with stories about life cause well....its just pretty normal.

Went to do my visa today. appointment at 1030 so i was supposed to get up at 8 take my time get ready and leave the house at 9. but as usual i got up at 9 rushed out of the house and got out of the right tube station and spent 20mins walking up and down holborn street looking for the visa office. but hey got to the place at 1015 so it wasn't too bad and i must say. it is so bloody efficient. i waited til 1023 and got out of there even before 1030 which is supposed to be my appointment time. the Malaysian bureaucrats should really buck up.
So i finished early and got some time to kill. guess i should go wander around london for the sake of it. got back on the tube to oxford street, since it was on the same line why not. was quite lazy to go all the way to london bridge and all those other places... so yea walked around went in a few shops. bought 2 belts cause i feel like im always wearing the same one...which i kind of am. :/ but yea saw this poster in the tube station about a le corb exhibition in the barbican so i thought i should check it out. at least be a little more like a proper archi student. so yea took a train changed a train and then got off a train and im about there. except i walked around the area abit lost like i was the whole day but finally found it. the barbican was a nice building. old school rough cement rendering which has since been updated with fancy coloured walls, trendy ID tricks and some nice chairs.
The one impressive thing about the exhibition were the models on display, the new pristine white models which seem to be a single molded piece and the older models carved from solid wood, quite inspiring.

After that on the way back 'home' i decided to talk a look see of the westfield shopping mall behind my cousin's place. best description of it would be a merge between starhill and pavillion, quished and spread into 2 very spacious storeys. Very convienient really. now i dont really have to go all the way into the city to do shopping everything is just round back. :)

the last year has been a whirlwind of events, most notably moving to glasgow to continue studying architecture. ive been studying at the glasgow school of art, under the mackintosh school of architecture. right now in second year. thats right i have to do an extra year. woohoo
i guess archi school is fun and shitty thing was the collapse of the Lehman Brothers just after i touched down in the uk. the only thing good about being in 2nd year now is that i probably might not have to worry about how hard it would be to find a job after my third year. but that makes it harder to find part time work in architecture practice i guess.

*so skip and fast forward to now*

on easter break now. and assignments and exams are trying to keep me busy. but are failing horribly....cause the mood is not really there.....but am trying to finish up. sadly at a very slow pace. but something to look forward to is going to london to apply for a chinese visa. quite the chore to sit though a looooong bus ride but. im going to be there for a week so should be worth the ride.

and now its close to the summer of 09. cant wait for it really. although for some it might be a stupid idea. but im going to beijing for a summer internship :D really now. why would i want to go to beijing in the summer. weather is going to be the shit. and well the pay. you cant really compare with anything. but minus all that. some goals for it would be to learn abit of chinese. hopefully retaining it for future use. and of course get more experience working in another country.

its the holidays. and once again. i have to find a job. and i got one at louis vuitton as a runner.
and pls as a note i dont have staff discount so dont ask me if got. lol. can tell you what bags we have in stock but no discount. so the job is alright. pays pretty well. much better than what most archi firms pay their interns. the people watching is great. so many differnet type of people come in the store. pretty entertaining. but the feet and legs are sore at the end of the day.
hope they have like christmas gifts for staff :D

so several things to do this holiday. not too much related to architecture i hope.

what a two weeks it has been.
since the last post there has been quite a few sleepless nights. a sitevisit to malacca. a site analysis report. a history quiz. and the most stressful project management project ever.

malacca was nice. compared to penang. its a whole lot smaller. and thank god amanda can pick good random numbers. basically the studio's site is the entire protected heritage zone of malacca. and my group got zone 7. the core of the site. st paul's hill. not too far from the hotel and not that bad of a site. however i got a shitty job in documenting the row of museums at the base of the hill. did you know there's an umno museum. wtf is the government thinking. a 3d model is due in about a month's time. back to the digital lab. back to good times there :(

i think majority of the class failed the history quiz. so screw that.

the highlight is projectmanagement. organize a bowling competition in 4 weeks and the presentation being in the second week. nice. so the team was setup and everything was great everyone was happy.firstly. andrew made us the team to beat. that itself was pressure. and well. all the kiasu ppl were in the group. 3 musketeers. so that didnt help our image. hahaha. screw that. but then. we are supposed to propose our event to our class and our classmates are going to vote who wins. nuts...

so we start off alright. and then. problem. its already 1 week pass and no work done. oh no.
2week. alot of steam but we havent left the station.

now we panic and everything is let loose. at this moment desperation and rumours are on a high. stuff is flying around about other groups and how theyre giving out mp4's to everyone. how one team has a 1st place cash prize of 6K. and another giving a trip to bali, for 10 frickin people. how not to panic. when you got a lecturer making your team the one to beat and these kind of rumours about how people are going to pwn your ass on presentation day. ideas come up. expensive ideas. T_T

and to fund these expensive ideas is another matter. so we run. we ran around sunway, ss15, kl. going shop by shop looking for a kind soul to donate to our stupid little, blown out of proportion class project. by now our estimated worth of prizes was worth at about 24K. the bulk of it coming from a very unlikely sponsor. celebrity fitness. 18k worth of membership. damn. and at the time we got that. i was thrilled i thought it could end right there. that we found our ticket out of this mess. but no. more rumours came up. and during the course of this entire project. people were really paranoid. it practically seperated the whole class :(

so at the end of it. last wednesday. looking at the other group's presentations was really heart wrenching. the highest prize they had was 400 cash prize. oh god what did we get ourselves into.
the project got way out of hand. too serious. and too many arguements. but in the end. we never did ask our parents for money to sponsor us. so i guess thats a good thing. we learnt how to go from shop to shop. thick-faced and asking for money. haiz.

i hope we can win the first prize of 2k cash. so we can pay back ourselves for all the trouble we went through. gosh that was long. the competition is next friday. hope to survive til then

its been awhile. since I've done some real work that is. 3 weeks into college already and its still like a whirlwind. too many activities. and assignments. its all coming together now.
good news are trips :)

the other day we visited the art galleries of Rimbun Dahan and Wei Ling.

and another visit to Ar. Ngiom's House X1 in seirramas. he used to be my ex-neighbor :P

on other matters. there may be a trip coming up to Singapore for a study for an elective class im taking. so im pretty psyched about that. anyhow. lots more work to do. just thought of putting up some pictures.

haiz. after such a long time of not posting comes bad news. dad's laptop stolen by some malaysian arse, or a fucking immigrant. sad to say so much shit happening in this country right now. if its not the malaysian football team bringing shame to our country it would be something wrong with the govt. or someone killing poeple's children. malaysia is not safe anymore. sad to say. i hope our police can do a better job and so can the govt.
if not. introduce communism. im sure with strict rules govt servants can work more efficiently. and everyone will have a job. and architects will get their full fee. we may not have wars, riots or suicibe bombers. but we got enough nutjobs to fill in the gaps.

4th july firewormks and taiwan

mmm today went to the exploratorium. this place is huuuge. you cant compare anyother science centre ever. so fun spent the whole day there. whee okay and then went to find a car park to go and see the 4th of july fireworks. wooo walked for 30mins from the car to the peir. gosh.

so anyways the fireworks were okay. i mean kl also has fireworks so...

okay so we have a flight to taiwan at like 1am. so right after fireworks we rushed to the airport and as usual we got lost. and lol my dad was going left and right not keeping in his lane. so there was a police car behind us. asking us to pullover. hahaha. lol. at least we didnt get a ticket.

so anyways. the flight was horrible. a kid behind me kicking my chair and a baby in the next row crying. jesus. luckily i could sleep for about 7hours. so thank god for that. and in the end. someone vomited and the smell was horrible.

so taiwan is HOT. same like malaysia. so from being a month with no humidity. jeez. sweating so much outside. its crazy. so we got a driver at the airport to bring us around the northeast part of taiwan. looksee here and there. nothing really spectacular here. except for maybe the dormant volcano. so got back to taipei in the evening where we arrived at the hotel. which is right in downtown. good location cause later we went out for a walk and only 5 blocks down we were at shimenting. i hope i spelt that right. anyways. its a shopping district and it has some food there. so had dinner there. basically the place is like a outdoor sungaiwang.

alright. end of day1 in taiwana and now the last day of this holiday. went to the sunyatsen memorial. damn its big. and then the taipei 101.
the 101 wasnt that impressive. maybe it was the polluted city air surrounding it. or maybe it was that aweful green glass that covered the entire building. or maybe it didnt have that oomph. hahaha. anyways. klcc looks tons better. so we went up to the observation deck. it costs like 260NT to get up there. haiz. for the tallest building in the world. the view isnt that big of a deal, cause of the horrible smog. try to get something too far away and you end up with a whiteout. at least the huge damper was impressive. but painting it gold was a little too much..
alright with the 101 off the list. theres not much to do around taipei. plus im a effing banana so i cant communicate for nuts. so off we go to eat. walking a few malls away we got to a taipei jogoya branch. comparing it to the one in starhill. this one is cramped, the food choice is not as vast. however it focuses more on seafood which is why its shashimi is more fresh compared to kl's one. on a more positive note. jogoya in taiwan serves alcoholic beverages. so in a buffet with freeflow of cocktails, beer and wine. if you cant get your moneys worth out of the food you can drink to get it right.
we had some time to kill before heading to the night market. so we went to check the local cineplexes. oh god....RM26 for a movie ticket. but from the looks of the crowd. i guess its a normal price for them. haiz. still havent watched fantastic four and transformers. zzzz.
anyways soo lazy to write anymore. in malaysia right now just got here in the afternoon. and now its late. haiz. more to come. night.

stanford and shopping wheee

whoo today was fun. went to visit stanford in the morning. very beautiful campus. haha alex, now i know why you wanted to go here. some summer classes going on and summer sports camps. loads of people actually. checked out some of the halls. and the bookstore. damn they sell godiva choc there. haiz. malaysia is so deprived. you can only get that in the airport.
then in other news, shopping hahaha. again. this trip had too much shopping. one whole bag full of clothes. so happy. ahaha. and after shopping went to the cheesecake factory again. this time another chocolate monster. these people are crazy. but good crazy. :)

napa valley and china town

so today we went out to napa valley. the main wine producing area of cali. its a short drive from the city and on the way stopped by the university of california berkely. almost empty since it was summer. but there were a few students walking around. couldnt get to the architectural school there but oh well. the place seems pretty nice and six flags is close by :) so yea napa valley. wine tasting aside. are there any significant buildings there? well for one theres this wineyard artesa, its built into the top of the hill you can hardly spot it unless you see this black square sticking out of the top of the hill.
another is the dominus wineyard. if you didnt know this already it was designed by Herzog&deMeuron but sadly its the weekend and it wasnt opened. sad. was looking forward to it too. but well got a pretty good view from the top of the car. zzz. oh well theres one more by them in the city. going for that on tuesday.
so we drive back to the city and get stuck on the goldengatebridge. but damn theres a lambourgini in front of me. so i guess. bleh. stupid rich ass. and then we pass it. chinadude inside. whooo! china power. bleh. probably a banana. heh. then we walked around chinatown until night. when all the buskers come out. theres this sax guy always on the corner opposite coach. the sound is great, amplified by the tall buildings all around. until the next night.

botta, the pier and the gate

okay today woke up late haiz. shut off my arlam and went back to sleep. my bad. so anyhow. went to the san francisco museum of modern art today but when i got there. whoo. free entry on the first tuesday of the month and next tuesday is the first one of june. so ill be back next week to check it out if i got the time. close up botta's brick work is very very clean. well yea thats about it lol. so off to the pier and fisherman's wharf.
the pier is huge. and parking is a frickin killer there. $15-20 for a whole day. and damn they pack the cars to the max there. so many people on the pier. stupid weekends. the boat trip to alcatraz was sold out until tuesday! so gotta go back on tuesday. haiz lots of places to go back. so getting irritated and looking for other things to do. so we see a bike ride shop. you rent the bike ride it from the pier over the golden gate bridge and then ake a ferry back to the pier. thank god i didnt go for that cause i found out later its a hell long ride. so we had lunch at fishermans wharf. it was soso. got a fisherman platter. with fried calamari, scallop, shrimp, baby octopus and a whole ton of fries. crazy. after awhile you get sick of it. so too bad not very worth it. so we left the pier and off to the golden gate bridge.
the wind there was awesome. non stop the whole time. and walking the bridge was great as well. get to touch the cables and stuff. some you can actually shake. haha.
visited the small town of sausalito. nice pretty quaint seaside town if rich yacht clubs and spa. haiz. so many nice cars there. went to starbucks. so thirsty. so i tried the new raspberry mocha frap. i dont know if its out in malaysia yet but if it is try it. for me its like chocolate with raspberry filling inside. so good. with that done. its back to sanfran. but wait. its almost sunset. alright we go up a hill to get a sunset shot of the bridge. great....we meet a pro photographer and he tells us hes waiting for the fullmoon tonight. great.... so we wait in the cold. its like 55 and the wind is not stopping for anyone. damnit. hands frozen i just keep the shutter clicking. got some good shots at least.
so its like 10something so we go visit chinatown at night. most shops are closed but there are some restaurants where people are there yamcha-ing. not bad. at least they dont close at 6 like everyone else. so we'll be back there tomorrow when more shops are open. so lazy to upload pictures now. especially on the laptop. hate the touchpad and the clicking. zzz laters.

seattle and the start of san fran

hmmm seattle was a pretty brief visit. just a day and a half. yesterday was a full day in seattle visiting a few places. the boeing plant in everett, microsoft's office in redmond and the experience music project(frank gehry building). well nothing much really, at the boeing plant going on the tour they brought us to their assembly building. the biggest building in the world approx. 92acres under a single roof. when youre inside the building seems pretty normal just like a normal hangar looking at the planes 777s and the hangar doors, which take 4mins each to open, it seems all good only when you look at the teeny tiny people on the ground that you see the great structure come alive. anyways good stuff looking around. and then there was the microsoft building. hmm not much coolness here. you can just play around with the comps look at the 'new' vista, play xbox, check out the zune. the really cool thing was a screen. kinda like the surface the next big thing. it was like minority report haha. and played table tennis on the screen with your hands. quite funny to watch people try out the screen. weird groping movements trying to zoom out and move around the screen lol.
okay now the architecture stuff. the emp. another frank gehry building stumbled upon on this trip. very colourful very expressive. well its is supposed to express the changing movements of american music. the stuff inside is insane. a WHOLE LOAD of information to absorb sometimes ts just too much. plus a audio assistant which you can rent it plays music at each exhibit. the experience focused on the northeast rock and roll scene plus the evolution of the punk rock movement and how vast the genre was in the day. and also alot of jimi hendrix. a whole hall for him. how nice. alot of rock tshirts for sale at the gift shop but. haiz. $26 bux for a jimi tshirt. bleh. oh well got a emp shirt anyhow. so well gehry's buildings may look very weird from the outside and inside. they look equally strange with i duno why the curved finished inside ranged from the roof being coated in shotcrete which kinda looks like recycled cardboard to mirror finish metal sheets. all very pretty. in its own way. introducing natural ligthing into the build was interesting as well with lightwells and skylights and glasswalls. bleh. okay he knows what hes doing. also his movie was on sale. haiz another $26. zzzz. forget about it. right. i gotta pick up icky thump tomorrow. saw it in the window just now.
okay so that was seattle. and now im in san francisco. whoo. last city in the us roadtrip. excited. the flight was at 8am. woke up at 5. jeez. so yea as usual. it got delayed. zzzz had starbucks again. every single airport has starbucks thank god for that. ok so got my coffee. and the planes there. so arriving in san francisco, the weather is great. very windy nice and cold. got the same car again. hehe and left a little present in another. off to the hotel where we dropped off the luggage and car. and we started walking. the hotel is in a great location in town. not sure if i can say its downtown. but well everything is in walking distance or you can take a tram to it. so we walked to the asian art museum. OH MY GOD FRIGGIN AWESOME. their having a tezuka osamu : the marvel of manga exhibitioni. frraaaaaaak. so cool. a whole gallery on his work very very nice artwork and very detailed backgrounds in some series. just mind blowing that during that time there was someone who could think about all this stories that lead to the creation of most of the genres of manga today. and i got an astroboy tshirt. whooo~ so then. its an art gallery. a very nice one at that. i think ive seen it somewhere before but i dont know where. so well. lots of pictures. and lots of interesting art from korea. which ive never seen before. leanrt alot about galleries. and how they move people around. controlling buggers. oh. did i mention. viz comics is a part sponsor. so theres a manga lounge where theres a ton of merchandise to see and a TON of free manga to read. whooo. damn. ran out of time. at least i got to read one volume. on that note. i wonder what happened to naruto, one peice, bleach, and gantz. havent been updating myself with the new chapters since i left. oh well. more reading when i get home then.
so the museum closed and we were out in the cold. haha. its summer damnit. so we walked. a few blocks to japantown. whoo more japanese stuff walked all the way and all thats there is just a bunch of jap shops and restraunts and 2hotels. alot of cool imported stuff though. but well not worth the price. they even got that bobblehead i got you dora. just got like so many more colours and stuff there. those guys know how to make money. okay. now were very far from our next destination. union square. CAB! all the way down the road. straight.
this place is a shopping haven. almost everybrand is there. and plus its summer sales now. whoo. its pretty tempting with whole store discounts. and theres like a 4th of july sale too. so i dont know how nice will it be then. haiz. why la malaysia not like this. sad sad. i guess maybe going shopping tomorrow. had dinner at the cheesecake factory again. had the double bbq bacon cheeseburger. it was so damn good. its like a pound of beef. maybe more in one burger. almost couldnt finish it. and had to cancel the cheesecake :( lemon raspberry. :( haiz. but can always drop by for takeaway. its just down the road. damn thirst now. oh this cheesecake factory is on the macy rooftop on the 8th floors. the view is aweosme and we got to eat outside :P cold but worth it. very pretty sunset with pink orange clouds going past by. oh right. the clouds here are so aweosme. the wind is so strong it pushes the clouds past you one after another. its like a national geographic fast forward thingy. but in real time. very nice. and then. on the map. a frank llyod wright desinged building. a block away. okay. so i go. its like any of the other buildings there. very old industrial 30s style with mild ornamentation. i dont know if its really his. cause i didnt know he did buildings like that. oh well. its on a tourist map. so should be true. after all there was a quote.
the special thing about san francisco is sanfrancisco. thanks frank. well it is a great city altough i havent seen all of it yet. well still about 6 more days. got some time. sanfran is one of the cities with the most places i could find full of buildings designed by some interesting architects. so ill see if i can visit them all. so out for now.

wheeeeee in canada. okay just came out of it. in seattle now just an hour and a half drive from vancouver. okay first things first. going to vancouver. on the way at the airport we got a serious ss bag check with xray and molecule sampling and shit. fuuuuuk...i dont know if its random or if it was because im from malaysia. haiz....well kinda racist i guess. HOWEVER this was in vegas. so what the heck more bad stuff about canada later. so yea okay get on the plane transfer at LAX. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz 2 hours of boredom waiting oh wait the plane was delayed for another hour. eff that. to make up for it. i give props to god for the most amazing sunset ive ever experienced. the plane was like flying in front of night. so its like you can see night on one side and sunset on the other. so its a really cool gradient in the sky. reeeeaaaly beautiful.

so getting to canada. theres like a 40% tax for the car rental jesus. theres also 40% icome tax. jesus. anyways. got there and its effing cold cause its raining. went down to 14celcius. freaking cold no time to adjust. zzzz. the city is great very beautiful. tooo many asians around. every corner theres an asian. haiz. is there no where in the world we cant invade. muahahaha
so visited alot of places touristy places and this time more outdoorsey. its canada afterall. oh

and i effin missed the white stripes who were in burnaby (where i was staying) starting off their canadian tour. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK

haiz anyways pass the grief. vancouver was fun. no shopping zzzz :( gotta wait for sanfrancisco then. so yea now im in seattle just visited rem koolhass seattle public library. so pretty at night. and tomorrow going to the space needle, experience music project(another gehry), beoing and microsoft. and flying off to sanfranciso next morning. cant wait 12more days til im back home with my sayang. almost over whoooo!

grandcanyon and sincity

alright. been a few days since my last post and well. currently in las vegas. its so frickin hot here. oh and f the local law. bloody 21... the strip is awesome and all very big hotels did abit of shopping. loads of places to shop at. 2 days of casino hopping. and my feet are killing me. seriously. nothing in malaysia can compare to this. its like walking all around like klcc and bukit bintang area. plus when you go outside its like 105. even at night. the weather just doesnt give a damn about us. anyhow. the only thing thats really nice(architecturally) is the ID of the restaurants and shopping arcade. its really over the top.
places to really go and visit. Cesar's palace. the venitian. mmm and just walk around everywhere else. the main thing is just to drive down the strip. and see the exterior of the buildings. oh. the luxor as well. that guy's pyramid is like....4-5 times the size of our pyramid. lol so sad.

before this it was the grand canyon and well so stunnning. on a plateau of 7000 feet the canyon begins. freaking awesome. sadly not enough time to climb down. and make a proper adventure out of it with climbing hiking rafting. darn. wish we could've stayed longer. anyhow. just went around the south rim. alot of pictures many of them panoramas so ill upload them when i get back home and join em together. so that would be about like 2 more weeks :S
also visited hoover dam. very pretty also it was in the evening almost night. or was it night. i guess it was night. the sky was a dark blueish hue. very very pretty.

today had the best cheesecake ever. if anyone had godiva chocs before. try making a cheese cake with it. god....it was gooood. after a 4 cheese pasta and having that for desert. shiiiit i will have alot of work to do when i get back home. this was at cesar's palace at the cheesecake factory. their cheesecake menu is like 1 and a half pages. sadly there are no outlets outside of the us yet. :(
today was the first time i got caught in a jam. and it was in a friggin car park. the hard rock hotel car park. damn that place has frickin big parties. their pool was like filled with people. so when we left after dinnner i guess thats when the party ended and everyone was going to another place. shit, got stuck on the 7th floor of the carpark and it took 1 hour to get out of the place. damn stupid. well tomorrow gonna leave vegas for vancouver. flight is at 2 or something. sad. falloutboy was coming to town on the 24th.

damn today was fun. most of it was mindless sleeping and driving in the car but overall fun. so was in scottsdale yesterday. which if you dont know is in arizona. so yea. yesterday met up with my parents business partner for mexican food. god the amount of cheese that came with the taco was :D:D:D jeez no wonder these guys are so big. damn and ive been here for like a week and a half and im getting stuffed everytime i go eat. fuck the servings are god damn huge. and they always come to ask you again and again. hows the meal? do you want dessert? do you even know how much you give us to eat?!?!? but hey. i love meat so what the heck. plus i always got room for desert.

this was yesterday and every other day

so today i had frank lloyd wright and chicken wings. yeap. frank lloyd wright loved chicken wings. you can see it in his architecture. why do you think there are so many triangles in taliesin? duuuh its not all the pointy stuff in the desert. its the damn wing. YEAP. this is a fact. and youll get bonus marks in arch history 2 if you write that down. they dont tell you that in the books. so you gotta go on the tour. what tour? the tour of taliesin west. yknow. that place where he died. so yea visited taliesin today and well it was pretty great. alll the chicken wing stuff will come in later. its $18 for a student ticket and $20 for a normal person. well the tour starts of great. introductions blah blah blah and we go around the buildings. amazingly there are many many things you should go see. the pictures you see on the net are so misleading. they make everything look so big. so anyways. i cant post any pictures cause the dude told me its for my use only. but being the malaysian that i am ill just give you a few.

so anyways. the place was really nice and the most surprising thing to me was that the frank llyod wright school of architecture. you can actually still go to taliesin west to study. it is an accredited school of architecture. too bad for flw his name just isnt enough. right now its $17000 for a year tuition. which is retty cheap including food and boarding. however its a year long program so no breaks. o.o anyone wanna go now? aaaaaand the coooooolest part is you build your own dorm room. at first you gotta sleep outside in this tent like structure. well its a consideration for masters. so enough about that stuff. next is getting to the grandcanyon next on my hit list.

so we drive to grand canyon. damn its a long drive. passing so many different type of terrain along the way. rocky desert, semi desert and pine forest. lol. in the end we didnt make it to the grand canyon due to space time constraints. so we stayed in a nearby town of flagstaff. pretty nice palce. weather much cooler than the 108F phoenix. dinner was just down the road from the hotel. the chiken wings there are great. and with a margarita to go with it. ahh. this time was the only time we could get back to the hotel within half an hour and not get lost. phew. got lots more time for tv. when i get back im gonna write to astro to make them get comedy central.

so yea going to the grand canyon later and then off too las vegas. whoo~~

today was a cold day. good sun but cold. went to sea world today. and really it was one wet show after another. be it animal shows or rides. youre bound to get soaked. so no pictures now but will upload them later. woke up late cause i was soo tired. so i didnt even get to charge my camera batteries. darn. going to arizona today. and going to scottsdale. and all you architecture people know whats there right? hope you do.
anyhow. feels sad to wake up late cause my computer time has been cut in half. damn. yesterday must have been pretty bad. after you get dry and you find another awesome ride to get wet in. so you basically spend your whole day walking around the park in wet clothes. with like wind blowing at you all the time. freezing cold. and to add to the cold. a little bit of pain. my flip flops were pretty worn out. and we were walking around and around the park. zzz. its like walking barefoot on stone all day. zzzz
oh well had ribs again for lunch. wasnt as great as yesterdays but it did a good job anyhow. so yea thats alot of stuff for today. too many shamu's and too much seawater. hopefully the desert is hotter.

down to san diego

today we left LA. and we went down to san diego. today was filled with stops by the roadside here and there. just going wherever until we reached our destination. the first stop was laguna beach. i cant really say its the same as the show cause i dont really watch it or take pictures of places that were in the show. oh well. we were there anyhow.

and then there was lunch. hard to find we settled for this place. i have no idea where it was. cause i was sleeping. but if you drive down highway 5 and stop everywhere youll find it. Claim Jumperthis place had the best bbq ribs. yea. those were great. the fries were good too. i love meat.

so anyways. onward in our journey to san diego. mostly it was just in the car. so we got to our hotel. and unloaded the bags. i was like 6 or 7. so we decided to go to tijuana. whoo. excited. haha. okay so we drive down which is about 40mins? shopping there is good. sadly the shops closed early at like 9-930. guess that time it gets dangerous.

disney's california adventure

so today i visit the other side of disney. this side's more to california as the name states. many rides here, fun fun rides. hard to list all the rides. but we got through all the good attractions.
and went on some a few times. luckily the crowd here wasnt as crazy as the crowd at the nemo ride. since the other we didnt manage to get on the ride, we came early today.
how can so many people wake up early for this.

so yea we walked back over the the cali park and generally the impression was less people. so hey first ride we got in pretty fast, 15mins. soarin over california. the get you in seats not attached to the ground and lift you in front of a 3 storey screen where they project you flying over famous areas of california. thats the only way youre gonna fly over the golden gate bridge.

next good ride was the maliboomer. the excitement isnt really there. honestly. the solero shot is much more dangerous. did you know a young girl died after her hair got stuck during the ride? fucking nasty. im not sitting on that one again.

and next well supposed to be the california screaming. this was closed as of now. haiz. we'll check on you later. so onward! had some mexican food for lunch. so now back to the rides.
tower of terror is an 'elevator' ride. where you are in an elevator and they get you up like erm i duno count the floors. then they drop you at the top with open doors. i didnt hold on to my camera bag so it flew upto my chest while i was free falling and it hit the floor hard. so if you dont have a padded bag. hold on to your camera.

and then there was a bugs life 4d movie. Its tough to be a bug.

they have a live play here too. aladdin. very nice very big and alot of fun poked at sanjaya. haha. stupid genie.

next was turtle talk with crush. this was pretty awesome. you go in a room and you get to talk with crush. duuuude it was live cgi. freaking awesome. live cgi live voices. you can ask him anything and wel interaction with the character. haha. chaa~

california sceaming we come back again. this time it was open so we got ahead. now this one we went three times. good coaster very long i think about 70seconds i heard some people say. now thats a good coaster. and the good thing about it. there isnt that clacking thing when you go uphill its just one big push at the start and it lasts all the way til the end. hope i can go to six flags later on.

universal studio's hollywood

today was a fun day. much more fun than yesterday. cause today we went to universal studios and the rides had a generally short waiting line and the ride itself were much longer so they seemed worth the wait. overall most of the attractions were 4D movies ranging from shrek to back to the future to terminator2. well it was a nice 'addon' to what you have seen in the movie already, just seeing your fav characters from your fav movie walking around again doing different things is just a joy. kinda like an unrealesed song from an artist.

but the first thing i went into was this piss-in-your-pants scary horror house. the fucker had all our favourite monsters all waiting to pop out at you, couple that with a non stop stream of groups of people you got going into the building you get one big scream factory.

and another nice attraction was the jurassic park ride. garunteed to get you soaked and it ends with an 84foot freefall. too bad i dont have pictures of that one. and then there is the famed universal studio's studio tour. this was pretty fun i guess seeing the sets of various movies. guess which hot mama stays in this house?

disneyland

went to Disneyland today. not much to say just that it was loads fun. very hot and pictures later.
tons of people. sadly not many asians and mostly just locals. anyhow. the ques weren't very long so the day wasn't so draggy managed to visit the entire park. well. still got another park to go. so that would be another day. well gotta sleep. the sun really got to me. cloudless skies the whole day, if you were out in the sun you could really feel it on your back.

airports and first impersions

woo. the flight was hell long and the immigration didnt help that much. 2 hours it took to get out of LAX. plus a stop over in taiwan for 3 hours. that almost a whole day in airports. T_T ahh still there is starbucks finally there

hmmm. so yea after such a long trip we still ahd to wait long. no ride to the hotel. so we decided to wait for the shuttle. after 20 minutes of mindless waiting in the 14 wind. there is no hotel shuttle. the hotel is too far away for it to have a shuttle. darn. what a waste of time. so we took one of the many shuttles for car rental services. so we got on the bus and lalalala*ping*

were there. so we go pick out a car out of a huge lot. and we got a Chrysler Pacifica. pretty big. kinda like the X5. happy happy. but sadly i cant drive in the states. zzzz. alright so we got the car, which was $1117 for 12 days including insurance. so we got onto the 405 south heading towards south beach. the hotels near aneheim so from the airport its kinda like driving to pj. so yea we drove and drove and drove darn a wrong turn. okay how do we get back to the 405... turn here

its 1am. i got arrived at 7. got out of the airport at 9 and finally lay down at 1

oh well. at least i didnt freeze my balls in the shower.

next morning woke up at 9. thank got its not a tour. or else we would have been kicked off it.
got down for breakfast and well. i had the plainest cereal ever. unfrosted loops with low fat milk T_T. well at least i got a frosted apple pastry. :) and choc muffin. enoguh sugar for now. time for the road!

well first of its was late. and still jet lagged. so disney land was not an option today. so we went sightseeing. first off we took the 405 north to la. whoo. a little bit of jam but whoo. okay. so i saw this sign.

well you know what that mean right. hehe. found one building and the first one is a gehry. hmmm.well my impresison of gehry has been like when i see his building definately awkward. but well this one wasnt like that. it was kinda pretty actually.

okay so i visited a gehry. zzz now what off to holywood i guess.

well got to the walk of fame and sooo lay to up the pics but well later. ill edit it with pics. so then
got a carpark just next to the chinese theater. so that was the first stop later went to watch Ocean's Thirteen there. soo nice the interior and the seats are reclinable. o.o

other stuff we went to see was the wax museum and the guiness museum. soo lazy to type already. ill jsut leave it at that. and once again got lost on the way back. so zzzz. darn. gotta sleep. its like almost 2am. until tomorow.

hmm its the night before the departure bags packed and no maps and just a list of places to see.
today went out with the guys. had nasi lemak at mdm kwans for a last taste. played dota. was pretty lucky in that. haha. but still need more practice and much more to learn.
anyhow. its gonna be a day by day posting from here on out covering the whole trip. hope to see everything i want to see and more. gonna have loads of pictures and tons of stories. heh more life experiences to acquire

first blog. guess its about time. well. i don't have anything else to do for now. so might as well do this to keep me occupied. still trying to get a good layout.

blah. haven't introduced myself have i? as of now i'm an 18yo 3rd year architecture student on summer break and planning out a month long roadtrip on the west coast of the states. if you got an interesting place feel free to drop me the location.
